Three Wheeled Buggies

If you’re looking for a buggy to run with or just a nifty stroller to tackle neighbourhood walks, three wheeled buggies are great for mobility. Their compact design makes them easy to maneuver even in tight places.

For a smooth ride, go for a pram with air-filled tyres. Look for models with a 360deg front swivel wheel. However, they are susceptible to punctures so be prepared with a repair kit.

Frame made of sturdy material

Recent figures have been released revealing that the three-wheeled buggy – that noughties symbol of more money than wisdom is on the verge of disappearing. Four-wheelers have replaced them, which are more versatile and easy to drive while still looking elegant.

The bigger the wheels are, the better your buggy can deal with uneven surfaces and bumpy pavements. The larger wheels both rear and front allow you to move and more stable when walking downhill or in difficult terrain.

MFM reviewer Kath tried this buggy out with a newborn and a 3 wheel pushchair with car seat year old and found it was able to handle grass, cobbles, rough roads, dirt tracks, and kerbs. She said “it is solid to push and is very stable when you’re on rough terrain. Its tyres (which are inflatable and require periodic pumping) have suspension built-in which was extremely comfortable for my kids.

The shape and size of the seat is a further factor to think about. You’ll want it to be large enough for your child’s comfort. You will also require it to recline so that they can lie flat. Certain three-wheel buggies have the option of reclining completely, while others will only allow a parent facing one.

The Roma Atlas is a great option for off-road and wet walks. It can be used as a single from birth, and then expands to take two children when your family grows. It is suitable for infants and toddlers until age four and includes a bumper bar, raincover, a better 5-point harness and large cushioned seat unit. Storage options are also good with a large basket, zip pockets on the hood and a handy pouch on the rear of the seat unit.

Wheels with a larger diameter

Larger wheels means that your buggy will be more stable on uneven terrain, which is ideal for buggies designed for off-road use. They also make it easier to maneuver the double pushchair 3 wheeler in tight spaces. A lot of three-wheeled buggies come with swivel front wheels to aid you in maneuvering around tight corners, whereas others are designed for running and have fixed front wheels that lock to improve the speed and stability at which they can be pushed. This also helps if you bump into a tree root or stray kerb as the front wheel can be lifted up to keep you from hitting it.

Many 3 wheel jogger stroller wheeled pushchairs have air-filled tyres, which allows them to handle a wide range of terrains. They are also more flexible than 4 wheelers. They also tend to be lighter. However, they’re prone to punctures, so you’ll need to keep a repair kit, spare tube and pump in your bag.

Some of our favourite 3-wheelers include the Mountain Buggy Core and Venicci Carbo Lux. Both of these buggies come with larger wheels that, as per MFM reviewer Kath, “perform really well on grass, gravel tracks and market town cobbles” and are able to effortlessly move up and down kerbs. They also have suspension that Kath says “smooths out bumps very effectively”.

The downside of having larger wheels is that they make some buggies quite wide and make it difficult to get through narrow spaces. This is an issue if you plan to use it for jogging or have to squeeze through narrow doorways while on the move. Fortunately, many models come with small folding options that let you remove the front wheels to make compact storage.

Easy to manoeuvre

A three-wheel buggy can be more maneuverable for children. The way they are built ensures that the front wheels spin on a dime and are incredibly easy to manoeuvre and are ideal for tricky terrain like cobbles, parks and bumpy pavements as well as dirt tracks.

MFM reviewer Kath tested a 3 wheel travel system wheeler with her toddler and newborn and stated: “The Terrain was a pleasure to maneuver over tough ground with the swivel rear wheel being especially helpful. I was also amazed by the way it dealt with kerbs using the hand-operated break. It was very stable going downhill or on a rough terrain.”

The only drawback to this amazing maneuverability is that the 3 wheel buggy’s bigger wheels sometimes mean that it can struggle in tight spaces – something to keep in mind if you live in a city region. If this is an issue then a 4-wheel buggy may be better for you.

Bumper bar

Bumper bars protect your child from scrapes and bumps when out and out and about. These bumper bars are easy to install, and will allow your child to feel secure and safe while out and out and about.

Created to match the sleek lines of your Slim Twin stroller, this bumper bar features a soft and cushioned surface that provides a comfortable place for your child to hold on to when walking. The durable construction and sturdy design will ensure that your child can take a stroll around town without fearing of falling out of the buggy or leaning too far forward.

The fabric sling sits snugly within the frame and not on top of the seat that is modular. This creates a lower center of gravity for your newborn at the ideal height, and also offers excellent weight distribution to make it easier to pop over curbs (it is much easier to push a stroller up and down than you think). MFM reviewer Kath said it was excellent on cobbles and grass. It’s also a great option for running thanks to its air-filled tyres as well as a the lockable swivel wheel.

With a chic and sophisticated appearance This bumper bar will surely attract attention wherever you go. It’s available in a range of finishes and colours to suit your personal style. It comes with a simple quick-release mechanism that makes it simple to remove and install the bumper bar as necessary. Furthermore the bumper bar is easy to clean and is made of sturdy materials that are easy to clean. This makes it a great option for families seeking a stylish and safe stroller accessory.

Comfort

A 3 wheeled pushchair-wheel buggy is the best off-road vehicle for handling and performance. This kind of buggy is easy to steer and turn on a dime with its perfect geometry engineering, weight, and distribution.

Designed with fabric sling seat that is tucked away inside the frame instead of sitting on top like modular seats, the Sport’s clever design enables it to have a lower center of gravity that is the perfect level for your child – providing you with a smoother push, a lighter curb pop (you do not require the same amount of weight or effort to lift the hood of your buggy up and over the curb) and better stability and balance. And with the huge rear wheels that measure 16 inches and lockable swivel front wheels and tyres filled with air that require only occasional pumping for an unhurried ride on rough terrain and a smoother, more comfortable jog as well.

The only stroller that is all-terrain in our range that comes with a parent-facing seat that can also accommodate a car seat or carrycot, you can make sure your family is prepared for every adventure beginning from the first day, and for years to come!

Kath, our MFM reviewer, also adored the spaciousness of this buggy. There’s a big, easily accessible basket that’s surprisingly roomy for a buggy of this size as well as a handy zipped pouch on the rear of the seat unit, and even 2 smaller mesh pockets in the hood to store your keys and phone.
