Magic Items
A character is able to upgrade only one magic item at a time. If an upgrade project is cancelled, any subsequent upgrades for the item will not start. Upgraded magic items cost twice the amount of gold to create or purchase, but they can have additional benefits.

Most magic items can be upgraded to be infused with additional abilities. This can make them more useful to players, or could help them conquer an especially difficult challenge. A weapon that is infused can provide an additional amount of damage to a specific kind of enemy, for example. This is particularly useful for characters that have reached a point at which they are likely to encounter the same kind of monster repeatedly in dungeons.
A ring with an infusion could grant protection against piercing, bludgeoning or slashing damages from non-magical attacks (not including silver-plated ones) until the next time the character is taking a long rest. This is particularly useful for melee martial characters or anyone looking to avoid purchasing a shield.
Some enchanted items have special powers that allow the character to cast spells in addition to those on the list of spells for their class. This is useful for characters who have trouble filling their spell slots due to multiclassing. These items that are enchanted generally require an Intelligence (Arcana) check to use them, and the spell cast is determined by rolling on an array of tables that is based on the number Intelligence points expended.
Other objects with enchanted powers could permit the character’s appearance to change or create a brand new one. These items are especially beneficial for characters who are forced to leave their home or in a place where they may not be accepted. A magical item could give them an invisible effect, or make them invisible to everyone but a select few.
