UPVC Replacement Door Handles

As time passes the handles on your doors will get worn out and will require replacement. In this case, it is important that the new handles conform to the exact dimensions of the handle that was previously used.

Inline Lever/Lever

A lever/lever handle is a modern door handle designed to suit new or replacement doors. This style of handle is available in many styles and finishes. This handle is offered by several manufacturers, including Avocet ERA Fullex Hoppe Mila Millenco Yale.

The handles of uPVC/Composite are constructed from robust materials, and are perfect for doors with multiple points that need a heavy-duty design. The handles are inline and work from the same spindle and screw fixings, so they can be easily fitted to existing or new uPVC/composite door handles doors.

The design of the sprung lever allows the handle to be positioned and angled for comfortable operation and is suitable for all users. The handle has been tested for endurance up to 200,000 cycles, which helps to ensure the quality of the finish and the performance of the handle over time. The sprung lever can also be shortened to fit a wider range of locks. This is particularly useful in doors with smaller door handle replacements frames where the cylinder is further back. A shortened lever is also a good choice for doors where the latch can be activated by the thumb turn located on the inside.

Lever Pad

The lever pad upvc handle is different from the lever handles found on most doors. These handles can work off one single spindle (inline) or independently from each side using two offset or inline spindles (pad). They are commonly utilized on UPVC doors with double glazing windows handles glazing. They come in a variety of finishes & variations.

The handles have been tested to at least 200,000 cycles and are available in a variety of finishes including White, Silver, Chrome & Gold. The finish is BS EN 1670 Grade 5 and is resistant to corrosion. This provides the handle with a high performance and durability for its intended purpose.

All of the UPVC lever pad styles for handles are supplied with the spindle and screws which allow them to be put on any new or existing uPVC door. The backplate fixing centers of 211mm allow for a wider size handle that is often a benefit when replacing a damaged or worn multi point door lock mechanism. The levers for these handles have springs, which can solve the issue of door handles that move out of horizontal position when not in use.

It is crucial to ensure that the PZ dimensions of both the multipoint lock as well as the upvc chrome door handles doors when selecting the replacement UPVC spindle and handle. This measurement is also known as the handle centre or ‘cylinder centres which is a crucial aspect to match the right handles.

Once you have decided on the correct size of PZ it is important to ensure that the push and lever pads are shaped to fit the American with Disabilities Act compliant handles you require for your door. These are typically rectangular or round in design with an internal lever and an external push pad.

Euro Cylinder

Cylinder locks are usually used on uPVC doors, but can also be used on other types of door. The cylinder lock operates by using a key that unlocks the cylinder case. The case is then able to reveal pins that can be aligned to those inside the lock, and permit them to turn the revolving camera, thereby opening the door. Euro cylinders are available with up to six pins. External and internal doors require different levels of security.

Selecting the right cylinder for your needs is crucial; it depends on how your doors and handle are used. External doors, for instance, should be fitted with cylinders that are more secure while internal doors can be secured with an ordinary cylinder. In addition, some cylinders have extra features which can enhance security, for instance anti-drill and anti-bump characteristics.

A euro cylinder must be measured correctly to ensure it is the right size for your door. The cylinder should be measured from the hole in the center of the fixing screw to the end of the cylinder including the thumb turn if you have one. It is recommended to do this while the lock is in place however when this isn’t possible, you may remove it to measure. It is important to avoid having a cylinder that extends beyond the handle or escutcheon. This can make it susceptible to lock snapping attacks.

The design of most newer cylinders has anti-drilling and bump resistance features. They are designed to decrease attacks by forcing cylinders to turn in a new direction. This can help deflect the attack and keep your doors safe.

There are cylinders constructed to withstand snapping. This is a typical attack on cylinders. A special tool is used to break the lock’s break line and the front of the cylinder is snapped off. This is a faster and more convenient method of gaining access than using the use of a multipoint locking system. It also leaves less evidence of the burglary which could delay insurance claims.

Spring Cassette

The spring cassette is situated in the base plate of your door handle. It is a spring-loaded solution to return the multipoint lock handles to their original position after using. These handles used to have no spring, and would slide when the locking mechanism was disengaged. This simple part is the best way to fix this problem. It also helps prevent your door from becoming stuck in the open or closed position since they aren’t easy to close manually.

These spring cassettes were created to be used with a sprung multipoint lock. They won’t work with handles that aren’t sprung, and you will have to cut a hole into your backplate for them to fit. (Please see the image for a detailed diagram). These cassettes are a solution for damaged or missing cassettes on the backplate of uPVC door handles. They are sold as one unit. They feature a square cut out that accommodates an 8mm shaft.
