Line-up

Turn Back, the band’s third studio album it was an attempt to return to the classic sextet format, and an even more consistent and powerful effort that had a more grittier edge. The more experimental sound of Turn Back reflected the development of the group. Drummer Bobby Kimball’s increased proficiency was evident in the vocal delivery of Joseph Williams, who had grown more confident and mature. Keyboardist David Paich’s work was sharper, more intricate, and less derivative than on previous efforts.

After touring to promote the album, the group recorded a live show in Amsterdam which was released as a two-CD set entitled Falling In Between Live on Eagle Records. The studio album came out a few months later, and the group went on a long-distance tour to promote the album.
